It seems to have passed without mention that June 6th 1944 was D-Day.

Yes, it was 68 years ago but we’re still where we are because of it and it’s a shame to see this become an “and finally” spot in the news – if it even gets mentioned.
It’s probably not politically expedient these days, what with us being part of Europe but if we forget the day itself we are in danger of also forgetting what led up to it ie nazism and revelations such as the concentration camps.
If you do want to find out what happened on D-Day, you can’t go far wrong with this book by Antony Beevor:
